Any tips to test for an internal leak to know for sure? This car has been a lot of fun and I've learned so much.Ĭlick to expand.Thats what I'm trying to figure out, I'm not sure if its just an external leak or internal. Recently some of y'all amazing folks helped me diagnose my alternator too, thanks a ton for all your help. If you are at all curious, here is my thread from over a year ago where so many of you were super helpful in helping me better understand my car and make some improvements. but could there be an additive I could use that would work in the engine part of the coolant system? Car still runs nicely with some regular TLC even as things still go bad periodically ( like the alternator just did), I'd love if there was a better fix to this besides actually doing the head gaskets job which is out of the question for my mechanical capabilities and my budget. I know I should be topping it off more regularly. I'm not seeing an obscene amount of coolant being lost but it does happen from time to time where I run completely dry, it starts over heating and I gotta fill it with coolant again to keep it going before it happens next time. But of course I'd like to keep this car going, especially with used car prices going up lately. 2020) I have managed to put 17,000 miles on it which I'm proud of and makes me feel like I've almost got my moneys worth I spent $1800 and probably put another $500 or so into it. I've known about this weeping head gasket for well over a year and since owning the car for almost 2 years (Jan. I'm also hesitant to use a head gasket sealer additive like Bars cause I've heard bad things about those, but I'm no expert so who knows.įor some context, yes I got a weeping head gasket, but its not mixing with engine oil, each leak is contained and I think the oil leak has lessened and I plan to keep adding more oil stop leak as I continue to push the vehicle life as far as I can. I see radiator leak fix additives out there but I'm not sure they will help considering where its located. I'm trying to figure out if there is any coolant additive that could potentially fix a coolant leak coming from the engine, not the radiator or anything external to the engine.
